Kris’ Cookbook – Notes and Recipies for Makers

I spend a lot of my time figuring things out. Through my students as well as through my own personal projects, I work with software, hardware, tools, and dozens of little boards and devices all constantly changing and being updated. Too often, I figure something out and months go by before I have to recall the websites, diagrams, or code that I used and then I need to go hunting for it again.

Most of this info starts online, but I have to work through the many great websites and tutorials from Adafruit, Sparkfun, Raspberry Pi, Instructables, etc…. to get just what I need. All of this reminds me of what I do when I cook. I read, try recipes, modify them so that I like them, and then take notes in my handy-dandy recipe software (MacGourmet Deluxe – I’ve been using it forever…)

What if I started keeping notes for myself and leaving them online where I would easily find them? What if as I figured out how to build software and hardware into useful combinations for projects my students and I are working on, I publish them as “recipes” so my students and I (and you) can easily find them? Here is my attempt to do just that.

I have loosely organized this like a cookbook, starting with notes for specific “ingredients” –  types of Hardware, Software, and Fabrication Tools that I use in my labs, followed by recipes using that ingredient. As with cooking, multiple ingredients will be combined in different recipes. It is my hope that the WordPress tagging system will help me keep all of this somewhat organized.
